Hydraulic engineering history at the Smithsonian Institution

Over the last 250 years American hydraulic engineering has taken many forms. Some techniques, practices, and inventions were adapted from abroad. Others reflected an innate creativity. These sources are explored by discussing artifacts from the collections of the National Museum of American History. The focus of the paper will be on less well known events and people who made that history.
