Nineteen medicinal plants of Manipur have been investigated by Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) and by Proton Induced Gamma ray Emission (PIGE) techniques. Out of these, twelve medicinal plants were analysed by both PINE and PIGE techniques. The elements K, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu and Zn are present in varying concentrations (ppm level and above) in all samples analysed by PIXE. Ti, V, As, Se, Br, Cr and Ni are also present in many of the medicinal plants (below ppm level). The elements F, Na, Mg, Al and P are also detected in all medicinal plants analysed by PIGE technique. The concentrations of K, Ca, Mg and P are high in all samples; Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Na and Al are also present at much lesser quantities and F at least quantity.
