Lime products are also playing an ever more crucial role in environmental protection in addition to the familiar areas of application of lime for building and in the manufacture of iron and steel. The use of lime will become substantially more important in future as a result of the re-orientation of the German Water Resources Policy Act which is being directed ever more towards ecological management of water;This article provides an overview of the areas of application of lime for improving the water ecology, for example for cleaning up lakes, for acidified streams and for sewage treatment plants.
