摘要
BACKGROUND: Chondrosarcomas are a heterogeneous group of malignant mesenchymal tumors derived from a cartilaginous origin. Less than 10% of chondrosarcomas involve the craniofacial region, accounting for less than 2% of all head and neck tumors. The condition usually affects the age group of 30-50 years, but a fraction of cases occur in the pediatric age group. Its slow-growing tendency masks the malignant nature clinically. CASE: We report a case of well-differentiated chondrosarcoma in a 16-year-old male presenting with a mass in the nasal cavity. Radiological evidence of invasive nature along with atypia and infiltrative pattern demonstrated by cells within the lobules of cartilage, and absence of osteoid or physaliphorous cells helped established the diagnosis. CONCLUSION: The recommended treatment for chondrosarcoma at this site is en bloc excision. Prognosis is good, but recurrence is common with positive surgical margins.
