Addictions are epidemic in North America and as a result more neonatal abstinence syndrome is seen. Health professionals and patients and their families need to understand the current thinking on behaviors and treatment. There have been initiatives dedicated to reducing overprescribed meds, specifically opioids. Having an autonomous and diverse cohort of healthcare service members to assist in prevention, relapse, and management is essential for healthy outcomes. Change is possible with a sound treatment model and example.
