Simulating the productivity improvements of incorporating a surge loader into the open pit loading and haulage system

摘要
The loading and haulage system under six different scenarios was simulated across an eight-hour period with and without the incorporation of a surge loader. Simulations showed that incorporation of the surge loader increases the utilisation of shovels by 11%, which results in a 13% increase in productivity of both shovels and trucks. This is a result of the shovel being able to load continuously and a reduction in the average cycle time of trucks by 2%, after reducing the maximum average waiting time of trucks by 66.66%. This productivity improvement was equivalent to adding two trucks to the fleet.
