Ultra-high Negative Dispersion Compensating Index Guiding Single Mode Octagonal Photonic Crystal Fiber: Design and Analysis

摘要
A single mode octagonal photonic crystal fiber is numerically analyzed and proposed for compensation of chromatic dispersion in optical communication networks. Finite element method (FEM) has been used for researching the dispersion characteristics and nonlinearity of the proposed PCF. Simulation results suggest that it is considered to be a prime component for the compensation of chromatic dispersion due to the large negative dispersion value of -1969 ps/(nm.km) at 1.55 mu m wavelength along with high nonlinear coefficient of 80.94 W(-1)Km(-1) at 1.55 mu m wavelength, making it convenient for sensing application. On top of that the geometric parameter variation of +/- 2% around the optimum value is investigated to evaluate the practical feasibility.
