A Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer-based broadband infrared polarimeter has been developed around a pair of high-quality Brewster angle polarizers. These polarizers consist of four Ge plates in a chevron geometry and have been measured to have extinction ratios of less than 10(-5) at four laser wavelengths from 0.63 mu m to 10.6 mu m. The polarimeter has been used to characterize wire-grid polarizers from 1 mu m to 12 mu m, as well as for full Mueller matrix determination from 1 mu m to 5 mu m using a rotating-retarder arrangement with a pair of MgF2 retarders.
