This installment of Computer's series highlighting the work published in IEEE Computer Society journals comes from IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics. The Web extra at https://youtu.be/Leydvn2-WRg is a video to accompany 'Instant Outdoor Localization and SLAM Initialization from 2.5D Maps,' in which the authors propose a new approach to global localization using publicly available 2D maps and height information. © 2016 IEEE.
