摘要
This paper presents an investigation into online assessment, focusing on the use of XML in the mark-up of learning objects used in online assessment. The proliferation of Internet distance leaming is discussed, along with the technologies adopted for its delivery. The importance of metadata will be described as a fundamental aspect of learning, as well as its connection to ontology's and a progression towards XML and its application in describing data. A number of currently available XML schemes used in the mark-up of online assessments are then outlined and evaluated, drawing conclusions about their overall effectiveness. Results are successfully viewed on the web. Finally an improved mark-up system devised by the author is described, and evaluated against other currently available technologies. The final conclusion is made that the system created represents an overall improvement on alternative technologies available.
