The establishment and development of advertising in Nizhny Novgorod Governorate at the end of the 19th century

摘要
With the development of industrial production and trade the need in advertisement is increasing gradually. In the second half of the 19th century advertisement turns into a special type of entrepreneurship, the sphere of professional activity. In Nizhny Novgorod there was evident the surge in printed advertisement. The growing competition stimulated the search for ways and means of attracting clients: publishers located the points of receiving ads in different places of Nizhny Novgorod and Nizhny Novgorod Fair, established the system of discounts, offered new ways of advertisement services, decreased fees. By 1890 there had appeared the first reference to an advertising agency. By 1914 practically all periodicals were receiving substantial profit from paid publications.
