Tailoring Chitosan Nanocomposites for Planar Optical Waveguide Applications

摘要
An integrated photonic chitosan optical sensor was obtained via preparation of chitosan-based silica-phosphate nano-composites doped with 1 mol % of Er3+ ions using sol gel technique. The prepared nano-composites were investigated by using the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and the X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphology of the prepared nano-composites was determined by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The near infrared (NIR) luminescence spectra results indicated the presence of I-4(13/2) -> I-4(15/2) transition for Er3+ ions at about 1.54 mu m confirming that the chitosan-based silica-phosphate/Er3+ nano-composites are promising candidates for planar wave guide applications in the NIR region.
