TIME-GCM results for the quasi-two-day wave

To understand how the quasi-two-day wave (QTDW) interacts with the mean flow and migrating tides we perturbed the lower boundary of the National Center for Atmospheric Research Thermosphere-Ionosphere Mesosphere-Electrodynamics General Circulation Model (TIME-GCM) to excite the QTDW. Results from our initial model runs, computed for a perpetual January 15th, show wave amplitudes in wind and temperature that are in qualitative agreement with previous model results and observations. The wave period and amplitude change over the duration of the model run and it is expected that this results from changes in the zonal mean zonal winds. Evidence supporting nonlinear interactions between the QTDW and the migrating tides is presented.
