Far-UV analysis of Bp stars with co-rotating disks

Spectroscopic techniques are discussed for quantifying physical conditions in the magnetic torus disks of rotating magnetic B variable stars. These include the determination of metallicity, temperature, column density, and turbulence in these disks. An analysis of the resonance line variations suggests a number of unexpected properties of their geometry and ionization: the disks may be rings, their geometries and ionizations are probably not azimuthally symmetric, and the anomalous absorptions and emissions of these lines may well be excited by a process other than X-ray/EUV photoionization.
