摘要
Electromagnetic stirring (EMS), also called induction stirring, uses rotating or travelling magnetic fields to generate a motion of the liquid steel or to control the liquid steel flow with the purpose of obtaining metallurgical improvements. Part 1 of this article has been published in No. 4, April 2003, of the Revue de Metallurgie-CIT and presents a historical review of EMS in billet, bloom and slab casters as well as the basics of electromagnetism and fluid flow that are relevant for the understanding EMS. Part 1 contains the following chapters with 17 figures : history (billets and blooms, slabs), electromagnetism (principle, Faraday and Lorentz, choice of frequency and performance, efficiency, electrical characteristics), fluid flow (flow velocity, linear or rotational flow, rotational EMS for billets and blooms, linear EMS for slabs, magnetohydrodynamics). The present part 2 presents the metallurgical principles and the industrial applications and results.
