For land management and most engineering projects, not only the stability but the whole response of the slope to environmental changes before, during and after failure has generally to be considered. In this paper, a Finite Element code (FADES: Flow And DEformation in Soils) linked to a Limit Equilibrium code is used to study the evolution to failure of an unsaturated slope submitted to rainfall infiltration. The rainfall-induced evolution of water pressure, stresses and degree of saturation are obtained. The consequent collapse process is afterwards analyzed.
