摘要
Conventional fabrication of silicon carbide platelets costs high and consumes energy that limits their extensive application in the field of composites. In this work, a new method for producing silicon carbide platelets is reported. The silicon carbide platelets were prepared by electrical heating powders of carbon black and SiO2 at 1900 degrees C for 3 h. The silicon carbide platelets have the diameters of 50 similar to 200 mu m and thickness of 5 similar to 20 mu m. The powder-heating technique is believed to be a promising method for scaling up of production of the silicon carbide with lower cost.
