Temperature Measurement in Power Equipment Based on Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing

摘要
A distributed fiber optic temperature sensing (DFOTS) system, developed for application to the electric power industry, was tested at various field locations. Changes in Rayleigh backscattered light from the fiber cladding indicated changes in local temperature at points along the fiber using an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer approach. This distributed fiber optic temperature sensor had a spatial resolution of 0.1m using fiber sensors up to 100m long. Field test data were successfully obtained for several electrical power system applications. Based on the results of these field measurements, a basic conclusion is that the DFOTS approach can provide valuable information relating to the thermal performance of operating electrical equipment.
