Incidence and clinical features of intraventricular hemorrhage in Thai premature infants: A prospective study

To determine the incidence and clinical features of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) in Thai permature infants, serial cranial ultrasounds were performed on 105 infants of less than 35 weeks gestational age in Chulalongkorn Hospital during a 6-month period. The incidence of IVH in the study was 47.6%. However, major grade (III and IV) IVH was found in only 4% of cases. Clinical signs were detected in 20% of cases. There were 6% with extension of bleeding and 2% had hydrocephalus on follow up scans.
