ASSOCIATION BETWEEN INTERLEUKIN-1a-889C/T POLYMORPHISM AND ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE RISK IN CHINA: EVIDENCE BASED ON A META-ANALYSIS

More and more research is focused on studying the relationship of IL-1a -889C/T polymorphism with susceptibility to alzheimer's disease (AD), among which discrepancies have risen. The current study aimed to evaluate the possible relationship about IL-1a -889C/T polymorphism and AD in certain Chinese population. The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, the Chinese Biomedical Database, and the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure were searched up to May 2019. The overall and subgroup analyses were performed using fixed or random-effect model depending on heterogeneity. A total of 1902 AD cases and 1751 controls in 8 studies were used in the current study. Overall, a significantly elevated relationship about IL-1a -889C/T polymorphism on AD risk was found in all included Chinese subjects (TT vs. CC, OR=1.81, 95% CI: 1.03-3.19). Sensitivity analysis indicated consistent results for the fixed- and random-effects models. The subgroup analyses by geographic area indicated that IL-1a -889C/T polymorphism was not related to AD risk among south China population. Collectively, the results of this meta-analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between IL-1a -889C/T polymorphisms and the increased risk of AD in a Chinese population. Further studies should be conducted to investigate the environmental modification of IL-1a -889C/T on AD risk.
