Prevotella intermedia meningitis associated with cerebrospinal fluid leakage in an adolescent

Anaerobic bacteria have not been previously reported in meningitis associated with cerebrospinal fluid leakage caused by trauma. This report describes an adolescent who had meningitis caused by Prevotella intermedia associated with cerebrospinal fluid leakage. The infection developed after head trauma and right orbital bone fracture. The patient recovered after parenteral therapy with metronidazole and ceftriaxone for 21 days and metronidazole for an additional 21 days.
