Effect of Nd on the microstructure and properties of a TiAl alloy

摘要
The effect of Nd on the microstructure and properties of Ti-47.5-0.25Nd was studied. Nd2O3 phase was formed by the addition of Nd to TiAl. Two types of morphologies were observed in the TiAl alloys. The first are large particles, formed by internal oxidation during solidification. The second are small rounded Nd2O3 particles, precipitated at the γ/γ boundary or in the γ matrix during heat treatment. With addition of 0.25 at% Nd, the tensile strengths of Ti-47.5Al-0.25Nd alloy at room temperature and 900°C is increased. The creep resistance of Ti-47.5Al-0.25Nd at 800°C is significantly improved by reinforcement with the Nd2O3 phase.
