摘要
An introduction to the theoretical description of parametrically driven surface waves (Faraday waves) is presented. The focus is on the latest developments in the solution of the linear stability problem. Numerical techniques as well as analytical approaches are discussed and compared. The damping within the convective bulk is compared to dissipation in the viscous boundary layers. Depending on their relative weight, the surface waves resonate either subharmonically or harmonically with respect to the external drive.
