摘要
This paper describes the design of microstrip patch antenna based on metamaterial inspired structure of Complementary Single Split Ring Resonator (CSSRR). A rectangular patch antenna loaded with CSSRR both on the patch and the ground plane is studied. A 40mm x 40mm x 1.7 mm antenna resonating at 5.5 GHz is modified and brought down to 5.3 GHz using two rings of CSSRR, one in patch and other in ground plane along with a via. Addition of via in the structure results in reduction of resonant frequency by increasing the path for current and also results in improvement of return loss and Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR). Comparison is also done for symmetrical as well as complementary placement of ground CSSRR with respect to the CSSRR in patch. Frequency reduction of up to 200 MHz is obtained from the simulation results resulting in miniaturization of patch antenna by 7% approximately. In addition, the gain, bandwidth, return loss and radiation efficiency for all the cases are also discussed in this paper.
