The hydrothermal reactions of 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylate (H(3)btrc), 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bpy), or 1,10-phenanthroline (1,10-phen) with transition metal acetates in basified solvent gave rise to three novel coordination polymers, [Ni-3(btrc)(2)(4,4'-bpy)(2)(H2O)(5)](n)center dot 2nH(2)O (1), [Cu-3(btrc)(2)(1,10-phen)(3)](n) (2), and [Co(H(2)btrc)(2)(4,4'-bpy)(3)(H2O)(2)](n) (3), which show respectively three-dimensional polymeric architecture, two-dimensional lamella, and one-dimensional chain architecture. Interestingly, the noncentrosymmetric compound 1 is constructed by beautiful "S" ribbons and exhibits very interesting ferromagnetic properties.
