摘要
Over the past few years, the volume of information available through the World Wide Web has been expanding exponentially. The Web has given us access to millions of resources, irrespective of their physical location and language. However, since current Web design targets human consumption, relied on textual keywords to index and retrieve documents, which may return inaccurate and incomplete results. To address this issue, in 2001, Berners-Lee proposed semantic web with the idea of adding facilities for machine-understood descriptions of metadata to current web. Semantic-based Information Retrieval (IR) represents both document and queries using semantic concepts, instead of keywords, and performs retrieval in that concept space. Its purpose is to design to improve traditional web searching and it is based on an explicit representation of semantics about web resources and real world object and aims to improve both the proportion of relevant material and the proportion of precision results. In this paper, we propose architecture of information retrieval based on semantic web. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
