The information matrix based on ranked set sampling (RSS) has been derived and it has been shown to be the sum of two semi-positive matrices, one of which is the information matrix based on simple random sampling (SRS). This decomposition demonstrates that parametric inference based on RSS is generally more efficient than its SRS counterpart. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
