Ba3Ti4Nb4O21 powder was prepared by sol-gel technique using Nb-citrate, Ba(CH3COO)(2) and C16H36O4Ti as raw materials. The crystalline phase of Ba3Ti4Nb4O21 can be obtained at 700 degrees C, which is about 400 degrees C lower than that of common solid-state reaction process. Infrared spectrum, thermo-gravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize properties of the citrate precursors and the calcined powders. The results show that pure Ba3Ti4Nb4O21 powder with particle size of 30-50 nm are obtained from precursor gel calcined at 700 degrees C for 2 h.
