摘要
In this study, machining of the Al/SiCp MMC with 10% by weight fraction of SiC particulate has been carried out by using multilayer-coated carbide insert. To study the effect of the process parameters (cutting speed, feed and depth of cut) on responses such as arithmetic surface roughness average (Ra), maximum peak-to-valley height within sampling length (Rz) and maximum peak-to-valley height within assessment or evaluation length (Rt). Desirability function analysis (DFA) analyses performance index of the output responses by obtaining the composite desirability value. These values were analyzed with the Taguchi method to find out the optimum parametric setting for the desired values of the responses. The influence and contribution of the individual parameter is determined through analysis of variance (ANOVA) and mean response of the composite average desirability value. Confirmation test had also carried out to validate the results. The test results revealed that the machining characteristics have enhanced through this desirability function approach.
