The genesis and legacy of a 16th century noble collection. The tapestries of the Ducal House of Medinaceli

This text explores the genesis and legacy of a 16th century collection of tapestries assembled by the ducal House of Medinaceli. Drawing on unpublished documentary sources, particularly inventories, it presents the series of tapestries, many of them of Flemish origin, which not only decorated the palaces and residences of the de la Cerda family but also functioned to transmit messages and provide a reflection of Renaissance courtly luxury and magnificence in the context of the Spanish Habsburg monarchy.
