Two series of catalysts were prepared for which Cu2+ ions were introduced into the zeolite ZSM-5. For one series, an aqueous solution of Cu(OAc)(2) was the sources of the Cu2+ ions; and for the other series, Cu(en)(2)(ClO4)(2) dissolved in acetonitrile was the source of the Cu2+ ions. These catalysts were tested for reactivity and selectivity in the methanol to hydrocarbon reaction. The selectivity of this reaciton to C-8-C-10 hydrocarbons was favored by the catalyst prepared using Cu(en)(2)(ClO4)(2) as the source of Cu2+ ions.
