Preparation and characterization of nanocrystalline WO3 powder based highly sensitive acetone sensor

摘要
Nanocrystalline WO3 powder has been synthesized using sol-gel method. The synthesized powder and commercial WO3 powder have been characterized using XRD and TEM analysis. The results have revealed that the crystallite size of synthesized powder is similar to 18 nm, whereas commercial powder has crystallite size similar to 58 nm. Both the powders have been deposited on alumina substrate to fabricate thick film sensors and then have been subjected to 50 ppm of acetone and ethanol to optimize the sensing response. The investigation has divulged that the sensing response to acetone in case of sensor fabricated using synthesized nanocrystalline WO3 powder is much better than in the case of sensor fabricated using commercial WO3 powder. Moreover it can effectively detect both acetone and ethanol.
