摘要
In designing Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switches, it is required to predict the size of buffer requirements to support a certain Class of Service (Available Bit Rate ABR or Variable Bit Rate VER in our case). This work performs analysis and simulation of the minimum buffer size requirements for ABR and VER traffic. In our work, we utilized a feedback flow control congestion mechanism that belongs to a class of Backpressure (BP) algorithms. In this paper, the effects of changing the distance between nodes (connection length), number of connections, and the peak rate of each connection on buffer requirements using dedicated buffer approach is analyzed. Moreover, we performed analysis and simulation for the calculation of the maximum access time (Read or Write) in the buffer required for a certain Cell Transfer Delay time. We have found that ABR requires less buffer size than the VER. On the other hand, the VER requires a faster access time to achieve a certain cell delay.
