The prevalence of obesity in the United States has continued to increase over the last few decades. Mortality and comorbidity have been linked to obesity Some are calling it an epidemic, Others have called for obesity to be officially recognized as a separate disease process. Regardless of how this increase in prevalence is described, obesity is costing the United States close to $120 billion, and 300,000 deaths a year are attributed to obesity. This article describes the epidemiology of obesity in the United States.
