Infrared properties of n-type high-temperature superconductors

The infrared properties of n-type high-T-c superconductors are in marked contrast with those of their p-type counterparts both in phononic and in electronic features. Disorder-activated forbidden modes and doping-induced extra modes have been observed in Nd2-xCexCuO4 and Sm2-xCexCuO4. The low-temperature reflectivity and transmission measurements identify neither a clear signature for the BCS gap nor any evidence for Holstein shifts of phonons. The gap symmetry and the role of electron-phonon interactions for n-type cuprates are discussed in connection with their infrared properties.
