Antennas and Propagation in Communication Systems: Past, Present, and Future

This paper addresses the importance of both antenna design aspects along with propagation effects in communication systems. As systems become more compact and deployed more widely into complex environments, co-design of the antenna and the communication system propagation elements increases in importance. Several important considerations will be emphasized. The history of communication systems along with that of antennas and propagation will be reviewed.
