The stepwise substitution equilibrium AuCl2- + iX(-) = AuCl2-X-i(i)- + iCl(-), beta(i), where X- is the glycinate ion (H2N - CH2 - COO-), i = 1 or 2, at 25 degrees C in an aqueous solution with I = 1.0 mol/L (NaCl) has been studied pH-metrically. The corresponding constants are log beta(1) = 3.60 +/- 0.10, and log beta(2) = 6.2 +/- 0.2.
