Gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 prevents excessive fibrous repair in multiple blunt muscle injury in the rat

We investigated the effect of stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 on muscle healing following 6 repetitive muscle contusion injuries using modified-instrumented drop-mass technique, delivering a single impact dally to the right gastrocnemius muscle complex. BPC 157, 1.0 mug and 10 ng/kg b.w., or saline (control) were given i.p. and i.g., and BPC 157 1 mug/g and 1 ng/g of neutral cream (local vehicle control) locally, immediately after the each injury. 120 rats were sacrificed 24 hrs after the last injury. In all BPC treated animals edema, hematoma and leg contracture were significantly (p<0.005) attenuated, and ETP and TFI values were significantly, improved throughout injury period. BPC 157 improves muscle healing and functional recovery, and unlike growth factors prevents excessive fibrous repair.
