Let G be a bipartite graph on the vertex set {1,..., d}. Let K[t(1),..., t(d)] denote the polynomial ring in d indeterminates over a field K and K[G] the subalgebra of K[t(1),..., t(d)] generated by all squarefree quadratic monomials t(i)t(j) such that {i, j} is an edge of G. Let IG denote the toric ideal of K[G]. In this paper, we determine the bipartite graphs G for which K[G] is Koszul. (C) 1999 Academic Press.
