Physical aging of ultrathin polymer films above and below the bulk glass transition temperature: Effects of attractive vs neutral polymer-substrate interactions measured by fluorescence

摘要
The characterization of physical aging of ultrathin polymer films above and below the bulk glass transition temperature was discussed. Fluorescence of mobility-sensitive or free-volume-sensitive chromophores was used to show aging in bulk polymers. 4-tricyanovinyl-[N-(2-hydroxyethy-N-ethyl]aniline (TC1) was used to monitor the ageing at T g.bulk-25K in ultrathin poly(isobutyl methacrylate) (PIMBA) films. It was found that the aging rate was independent of thickness down to 10 nm.
