Encyclopedic Knowledge and Culture Transmitted in Dictionaries

In modern lexicography, dictionaries have constructed meanings by linguistic description, structural knowledge and formal description; this has resulted in a specialized and technical lexicographic practice. However, this study starts from the hypothesis that the separation between the denotative and the connotative in the dictionary is a clear artifice. In this way, the work shows that from a hermeneutic methodology applied to the dictionary discourse it is possible to reach broader meanings and an integral knowledge of reality. This allows for a new way of looking at the dictionary as an educational tool.
