摘要
Assessment of machinability of machinable glass-ceramic (Macor) in turning operations has been studied in this paper using uncoated carbide inserts under dry cutting conditions. This paper describes the development of a response model (surface roughness) for turning Macor utilizing factorial design of experiment and response surface methodology. First-order predictive model covering the cutting speed of 15-60 m/min has been developed at 95% confidence interval. The surface roughness model is developed in terms of cutting speed, rate of feeds and depth of cut. The surface roughness contours have been generated from these model equations and are shown of different plots. Dual-response contours of metal removal rate and surface roughness are shown also. The results are presented in terms of mean values and confidence levels. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
