Recent developments in the synthesis and utilization of chiral sulfoxides

The synthesis of chiral sulfoxides has experienced an enormous expansion in the past decade both from quantitative and qualitative points of view. Today, it is possible to access a large number of optically pure sulfoxides with tailored structural properties employing relatively simple and very efficient synthetic procedures. The wide range of structures reported to date demonstrates that the basis for the synthesis of this interesting class of molecules is now established, and further challenges are ready to be undertaken soon.
