摘要
This pal,er cvaluates CIS technologies in view of coming developments in lunar exploration, and describes ru eas in which such technologies must improve in response to such developments. It specifics changes within four areas - data inputs, data products, data consumers, and modes of interaction - which will trigger die most significant shifts from previous modes of exploration. Concluding that existing GIS technologies fall short of die requirements, and possibilities of the next era, the paper recommends specific areas for future work. These include improved four-dimensional data-consumer mobility; improved integration between and representations of different data types; active content production processes; input controls and interaction tools for multiple data-consumers. GIS systems which successfully implement some or all of these technologies will serve as full mediators between data producers and consumers as well as active producers of data content.
