The role of the sugar beet industry in agricultural systems in the Czech Republic and other countries of the European Union

In presented article there was realised an analysis of sugar-beet standing in agricultural systems of 15 EU countries and confrontation with the situation in Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. Member states have more favourable structure of plant production, better ensuring with manure fertilising in respect of higher cattle density and evidently higher acreage of fodder crops (i.e. sources of carbonaceous matters). Considerably higher is also industrial fertilisers consumption in this countries. Polarisation sugar yield dependence on the cattle density and on the quantity of used pure nutrient in the database of all assessed states was demonstrated by the help of regression analysis. Downtrend of sugar-beet area in Czech Republic in the year 1999 was unproportional high (greatest an-long of ail 19 evaluated countries). Differences of agricultural system structure interpret even the differences of estimated polarimetric sugar production in the campaign 1999/2000, which gives 9.57 t.ha(-1) in EU and only 7.21 t.ha(-1) in CR. In spite of unfavourable indices has Czech sugar-beet growing expectations for expansion. The way to this aim leads not only over intensive growing technology but even over changes of agricultural system structure according to the example of EU countries.
