摘要
Partial surface passivation of surface zinc bonds is an alternative approach to conventional volume doping to induce ferromagnetism in ZnO nanowires. Nanowires with partial F passivation exhibit half-metallic ground-state properties. The ferromagnetic stability is improved when the dimensionality of ZnO decreases from two (surfaces) to one (nanowires). The surface passivation approach may be applicable to modulating the magnetic properties of general nanomaterials. © 2010 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
