The oxidation kinetics of titanium carbide, nitride, and carbonitride powders in air

Oxidation kinetics in air have been examined for powders of titanium carbide, nitride, and carbonitride, which has revealed effects from the chemical and grain-size compositions, as well as from the type of surface in these compounds. The initial rare is dependent not only on the surface area of the powder and temperature but also on the nature of the material. The oxidation can be divided into three stages, in which the kinetics may be represented respectively by linear, parabolic, and again linear laws. Activation energies have been determined for the first two stages.
