摘要
This paper investigates the use of the phrase "crudeli funere" in the work of Virgil (Ecl. 5. 20; G. 3. 263 and A. 4. 308) combined with the presence of Bacchus and its possible implications regarding the figures of Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, Cleopatra and Octavian. According to the hypothesis presented here, the pair "crudeli funere" and Bacchus links the death of Julius Caesar in the Eclogues, that of Leander and Hero in the Georgics and that of Dido in the Aeneid to the negative effects of love. The so-forged network of relationships reveals a critical view of the submission of Caesar and Mark Antony to passion and the role of Bacchus as a symbol of the conflict between Rome and the East in the civil war at the end of the Republic.
