摘要
High-purity Mn4C magnetic powder with a cubic perovskite-type structure has been prepared by melt spinning, annealing, grinding and magnetic separation. It was found that the melt-spinning method is beneficial for formation of single-phase Mn4C. In addition, changing the grinding environment from an argon atmosphere to alcohol solution improved dispersion of the ground Mn4C ribbons, and Mn4C magnetic powder with higher purity was obtained by subsequent magnetic separation. The magnetization of the Mn4C powder increased with increasing temperature in the temperature range from 50 to 760 K. Further investigation by neutron diffraction and electronic-structure calculations confirmed the ferrimagnetic spin configuration of Mn4C, which is responsible for the abnormal dependence of the magnetization on the temperature in the above temperature range.
