PEG - Rare early and long-term complications

PEG is a clinically well established method to ensure enteral long term nutrition in case of swallowing disturbances which are not otherwise curable. Severe complications are seen relatively seldom. However, they do occure, they often take an unfavourable course mostly in the case of multi morbid patients. The following five case studies describe such complications. Prudent planning of the operation and competent after-care are essential to reduce the risk factors.
